Nightwish este o formaţie finlandeză de metal simfonic, fondată în anul 1996 în oraşul Kitee. Nightwish a contribuit semnificativ, spre sfârşitul anilor 1990, la creşterea popularităţii genului de muzică heavy metal cu elemente simfonice

Formaţia era deja apreciată în Finlanda după lansarea primului single, „The Carpenter” (1997), dar faima internaţională i-a fost asigurată abia după realizarea albumelor Oceanborn (1998) şi Wishmaster (2000). Videoclipurile de pe Once, album realizat în 2004, au fost difuzate la MTV în S.U.A., iar piesele figurau pe coloana sonoră a filmelor americane. Studierea acestei discipline cuprinde prelegeri teoretice, audiţii muzicale cu ajutorul aparaturii audio şi video, participări la concerte, parcurgerea unei bibliografii, redactarea de referate şi lucrări, analize muzicale
